SOAS Library Exhibition 'Rediscovering Stencl' opens 29 June

A new exhibition, 'Rediscovering Stencl' opens this month in the Wolfson Gallery on level E of SOAS Library. Celebrating the life and work of Abraham Nahum Stencl (known as the Poet of Whitechapel) this exhibition marks the end of a project to digitise and make accessible this important collection of Yiddish-language papers and writings. The exhibition will be launched on June 29th with an exciting programme of live events and private view in the Brunei Gallery Lecture Theatre.

New exhibition: Pirates, Merchants & Shipping on the North China Coast

A new exhibition: Pirates, Merchants & Shipping on the North China Coast opens this month at the Brunei Gallery, SOAS. The exhibition comprises photographs and manuscripts from the archive of John Swire & Sons held at Archives & Special Collections, SOAS Library. The display tells the story of the piracy of the Nanchang II in 1933 when three Swire officers were held captive by Chinese bandits for five months. Daughter of Eric Liddell visits SOAS

The 14th June saw SOAS Archives & Special Collections hosting a visit from Patricia Russell, eldest daughter of British sporting hero, Eric Liddell.
