Let us know your programme or course idea, especially if it’s a subject area that is new to SOAS.
From LLR
We will assess whether we need to purchase new books, e-resources, software or equipment to support the programme and assess the cost implications.

Let us know more about the programme including subject area, learning outcomes, forecast of student numbers, reading lists, equipment requirements and any other planning information that is available.
From LLR
We will assess the requirements to determine whether they are standard provisions, so covered by the RAM, or requires additional funding.

Ensure that we have signed off on the course approval form, which should include your confirmed list of essential readings; confirmed list of multimedia equipment and software (including forecasted student numbers) required for the programme.
From LLR
We will commence purchasing the resources to support your programme/course.

Want to schedule an information skills or Research Support session?

Contact your Subject Librarian to set up a one-to-one session, and check the Library Training and Events page for scheduled information skills sessions on particular themes and topics (eg dissertation skills, using e-resources).

Check the IT Training website for information on upcoming courses. If the course that you need is not displayed, the IT Trainer can speak to you about alternative options (e.g., new course design or course availability elsewhere in the Bloomsbury area).

Need to add your publications to SOAS Research Online?

Visit SOAS Research Online to login and for guidance. Contact the Library for support and training or to report a problem.
From LLR
Reviews all records added to SOAS Research Online and makes SOAS publications Open Access according to publisher policies, funder requirements and the REF Open Access Policy. Provides one to one support and training for using SOAS Research Online on request.

Need advice and information about publishing and open access?

Enquiries and referrals can be sent to the Library at outputs@soas.ac.uk who will liaise with the Research Office and other departments to provide support.
From LLR
Provides information and advice on publisher open access policies, publisher agreements, copyright, licensing and IPR in the publishing process, funder policies for open access and dissemination of research, REF open access compliance and journal impact factors and other metrics. Training in these areas is provided each term through the SOAS Open Academy. Departments can also request that information be delivered at meetings or departmental training programmes

Need advice about options and requirements for sharing PhD thesis via SOAS Research Online?

Enquiries and referrals can be sent to the Library at outputs@soas.ac.uk who will liaise with the Doctoral School to provide information and advice to PhD candidates.
From LLR
Advises PhD candidates on SOAS and funder requirements for adding PhD theses to SOAS Research Online. Provides information and advice on publishing options in relation to PhD theses and handling of data protection and copyright. Adds PhD theses to SOAS Research Online according to PhD submission forms. Considers and managers requests for removal of PhD theses or extensions to embargo periods due to publisher agreements. Training is provided through the SOAS Open Academy and collaboratively at other Doctoral School events.

Need support for and information on managing and sharing your research data?
From Department
Enquiries and referrals can be sent to the Library at researchdata@soas.ac.uk who will liaise with the Research Office, Information Compliance and IT to provide information and advice on data management and sharing.
From LLR
Checking and advising on data management plans for funding applications; information on funder requirements for data management and sharing; training and one to ones on data management for funded project teams on request; advise on trusted and recommended data repositories; secure data management for personal data. Training is delivered as part of the Research Office Seminars, SOAS Open Academy, Doctoral School events and dedicated workshops
