Children and A-Level Students
We welcome young people under the age of 18 who according to Library Policy can demonstrate a genuine need to consult our material. Please note that young people and children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Proof of age will be required from young people seeking to access the Library without an adult.
Library policy seeks to strike a balance between the safety of children on the Library's premises and the research needs of our academic users.
- Children and young people under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and adhere to the Policy for children and young persons (pdf; 252kb) on SOAS Premises.
- Children and young people are required to bring a letter from their school/Sixth Form college (on headed paper) indicating why they need to use the Library. Access is at the discretion of the Library. Please remember to bring a valid form of ID (e.g., student ID card, Library card, Oyster card) with you as well as the letter.
- In order to maximise the services and facilities of the Library, aim to visit outside of SOAS teaching weeks, if possible. See SOAS Library opening times for more information.
- The Library reserves the right not to admit children after 8pm in the Library, including those in possession of the SOAS, University of London Policy for Children and Young Persons on SOAS Premises Form.
Children and young people under 18 are not entitled to a membership card
Due to operational considerations we reserve the right to restrict access.
