Language Variation Reading Group
The Reading Group on Language Variation is a weekly reading and discussion group for students and staff from SOAS and beyond who are interested in all things to do with language variation and change, sociolinguistics and language contact as a factor in variation, be that in languages in general or in specific geographical regions. Some of us already know quite a bit about sociolinguistics whereas others are newcomers to the field, and everyone with a relevant interest in this part of linguistics is welcome to join us.
The topics of the Reading Group are decided by the participants and range from overviews and introductions to get a feel for the field to reading the classic studies to get some solid foundations to discussing ongoing work in variation and change by the participants.
The group meets on a weekly basis on Tuesdays at 10am (in Term 2) in Room 403 in the main building of SOAS. To join the mailing list or to find out more please contact Karolina Grzech (firstname.lastname@example.org).
