Second Language Acquisition
The Second Language Acquisition research cluster investigates acquisition of non-European languages as a second/foreign language (L2). In recent years, staff in the Linguistics department as well as in other departments (e.g. Japan and Korea; South Asia) have investigated L2 learners' acquisition of languages and cultures and their experiences during periods of study abroad in countries where the target language is spoken. We are particularly interested in L2 users' sociolinguistic and pragmatic development.
