Track 5: Pachyu Nghachhya

Distinct formulaic rhythmic units, nghachhya, accompany rituals such as the village protection ritual and the constituent parts of the major, three-day death commemoration.

Here, we begin with the distinct sound of the thunga horn. Pachyu shamans perform, giving a sequence of rhythmic units, each of which is designed for prescribed activities, as the shaman treats the ill health of the living or seeks to find and cleanse the soul of the deceased.
