11. Forud

Voice with ney

In the forud the melody descends back into the mode of Homayun with the inclusion of characteristic concluding phrases as well as passages of improvisation.

In the dastgah of Homayun, because of the relatively rapid departure by the pieces from the mode of Homayn proper, the forud performs an important cohesive function.

The poem reads:

Sa'diya! day raft o farda hamchinan mawjud nist

Dar miyan-e in o an fursat shomar imruz ra

Yesterday - Sa'di - long ago fled.

Tomorrow's dead - for it does not yet exist.

Today left to you between this and that,

Is the sole precious commodity.
