Carrying the enchanting musical heritage of Anatolian cultures, Olcay Bayir sings her own contemporary compositions to original arrangements of traditional folk songs spread across the region of Anatolia and Mesopotamia, unfolding ancient stories of love and mystery. Of Turkish-Kurdish origin, Olcay now lives in London, where her Western vocal training collides perfectly with her passion for the rich musical heritage of her homeland, allowing her to craft intricate and unusual melodic phrases, distinct harmonies and captivating, richly-layered textures. Her sensitive portrait of Anatolian culture sketches shade and light on the region’s fascinating musical interplay.
