SOAS University of London is moving up among the world’s elite institutions with eleven of its subject areas across a broad range of disciplines now scoring highly in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016.
Four SOAS subjects were ranked in the top 50 in the world, up from two subjects last year. Nine SOAS subjects were rated in the UK’s top 20.
Measured against all institutions world-wide, Development Studies (rising two places to 11th), Anthropology (newly ranked at 19th), Politics & International Studies (35th) and History (newly ranked at 44th) are the SOAS top performers.
Five SOAS subjects are ranked in the UK’s top 10: Development Studies, Anthropology, Politics & International Studies, Linguistics and Modern Languages. A further four– History, Law, Sociology and Communications and Media Studies – are in the top 20.

To compile their rankings, QS evaluated over 4,000 universities and ranked 945. Over 113 million citations and attributions were analysed, and the provision of over 15,530 programs was verified.
