SOAS alumna Vaishnavi Patil has been announced as one of the Yenching Scholars at Peking University’s Yenching Academy for 2016/17. Vaishnavi obtained an MA in History of Art from SOAS in 2015, specialising in Chinese art, and will be enrolled in an English language Master of China Studies program at Yenching.
Professor Michel Hockx, Director of SOAS China Institute said: “SOAS provides excellent teaching and research about Chinese arts and culture, equipping tomorrow’s graduates with valuable skills and knowledge to generate innovative world-class collaborative research. We’re delighted to hear that Vaishnavi will be an Yenching Scholar and continue the research she began at SOAS.”
With an interdisciplinary focus, the Yenching Academy aims to build a platform for China-oriented talent, and to shape a new generation of global citizens with a nuanced understanding of China and its role in the world. As a fully-funded residential program at China’s top university, the Yenching Academy builds bridges between China and the world by gathering young people who show promise to lead and innovate in their fields.
