The SOAS World Languages Institute in collaboration with the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme at SOAS University of London will deliver a week-long programme on theory and methods on modern language documentation with the Zentrum fuer Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft in Berlin.
The Zentrum fuer Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft is a specialist research centre focusing on all major areas in the study of linguistics, such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics, as well as creole studies and child language acquisition.
The programme, Documentary Linguistics in the MENA region, is aimed at local students and scholars who are working on endangered languages of the MENA region and are living in the MENA region. Topics to be covered include an introduction to documentary linguistics; ethnography; recording techniques (audio & video); data management and archiving as well as grant writing. There are 25 places available and all costs will be covered by the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme.
