Students, globally, have been ignited by the conversation concerning the legacy of colonialism in education, art and public spaces. In response, theatre company Bhuchar Boulevard is working on a new verbatim project on the decolonising education agenda, all of which will be based at SOAS University of London.
With support from SOAS South Asia Institute, the Decolonise the Curriculum Working Group at SOAS and the Arts Council of England, Bhuchar Boulevard will be on campus until spring 2019 to capture the zeitgeist of campus conversations concerning race, identity and equality.
The team will source material for the production by recording interviews with SOAS students, staff, alumni and senior academics involved in the debate.
The project will culminate in two pilot performances for creative feedback before being offered out for tour.
Bhuchar Boulevard was launched in Oct 2017 with the hugely successful tour of Sudha Bhuchar's Child of the divide, which marked the 70th anniversary of the Partition of India. Partners included the Partition History Project, Polka theatre, Z-arts and The National Archives.
SOAS staff and students can contact email@example.com, should they wish to take part in the project.
