12 July 2019
Filming will be taking place in the SOAS Library from Monday 15 - Friday 19 July for a new feature film by British Director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Baby Driver) titled ‘Last Night in Soho’.
The film is a contemporary horror/thriller set almost entirely in Soho and the West End and tells the story of a young woman studying fashion at UAL.
The Library will remain open throughout this period, and staff and students will be able to use most space in the Library as normal during this period.
There will be some specific areas that will be closed during these dates on Level E, C and D.
As filming is taking place, these areas may therefore be noisier than usual, but disruption will be kept minimum and isolated to these specific areas at the following times:
Monday 15 July
The film crew will be setting up the equipment and dressing the set on this day and will therefore be working across all areas. Please be aware of the filming kit, cable and props that will be installed on this day.
Tuesday 16 July
Level D reading room will be closed off during most of the day from 08:00am - 16:00pm and Level E meeting rooms will be closed off from 15:00pm - 19:00pm. There will also be 1 camera position on Level A for a short amount of time.
Alternative computer rooms L50 and RB01 are available for students to use during this period when the main Library Reading room is closed.
Wednesday 17 July
Level E meeting rooms will be closed off from 14:00pm.
Thursday 18 July
Filming will take place late at night from 18:00pm so library access will be kept as normal throughout the day.
Friday 19 July
All areas will be cleared and reinstated.
Should you need to access any books in areas where filming is taking place, please speak to a member of Library staff. The film crew will also have marshals positioned near the filming area if you have any questions or queries. Some filming will also take place at the College Buildings entrance on Tuesday morning from 08:00am. During this period, staff and students may be politely asked to wait for 2 minutes (maximum) during the shoots to enter the building.
We are pleased to add that SOAS students are taking part as extras in the film.
The film crew would like to thank all students and staff at SOAS for your cooperation and patience over the 3 days.
