25 June 2019
SOAS University of London’s Centre for Sustainable Finance will be hosting events for the first ever London Climate Action Week from 1-8 July 2019.
The newly launched SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance will be hosting three events addressing some of today’s most pressing challenges, namely, how to finance an inclusive and just transition to a net zero economy?; how to scale up low-carbon and resilient investment in the face of climate vulnerability?; and how should central banks respond to the impending climate crisis?
The week will bring together London’s climate expertise and talent from across sectors to run events across the city focused on taking local, national and international action. These events will highlight the scaling up of practical solutions and identifying new solutions to help cut our carbon emissions to keep global temperature increases within 1.5C and support the Paris Agreement.
The SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance is a newly established interdisciplinary research hub bundling expertise in sustainable and climate-related finance and its role in transitioning the world to a low-carbon, resilient and equitable future. Located in the heart of one of the world's financial capitals, the Centre addresses issues including green financial governance, climate and environmental risk for public and corporate investors, climate vulnerability and the cost of capital, financing the SDGs and renewable energy investment. The Centre seeks to develop cutting-edge knowledge and understanding of climate and sustainable finance in both the Global North and South and acts as a focal point for economic and policy debates in this area.
