31 January 2020

Dr Dan Plesch, Director of the Centre for International Studies & Diplomacy at SOAS, features in an article in The Express discussing the Iran's attacks on US troops. Dr Plesch features in the article "Iran’s attacks on US put British troops at high risk of becoming ‘collateral damage’".

The article reads: "An expert in weapons of mass destruction has said he is “very concerned for the operational safety” of the 400 UK military personnel stationed in Iraq, some of whom last week came under fire from Iran in the wake of Qassem Soleimani’s assassination. Dr Dan Plesch’s warning comes after a commander in Iran’s Quds force, which General Soleimani had led before his death, said his faction would retaliate against the Americans “without any concern about killing its allies, including UK troops”. Dr Plesch told Express.co.uk: “I think I would be very concerned for the operational safety of British troops."
