Ulrich Volz Speaks at the One Planet Sovereign Wealth Funds Research Forum

3 February 2020

Ulrich Volz, Director of the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance and Reader in Economics, attended the One Planet Sovereign Wealth Funds Research Forum at the Élysée Palace in Paris. At the Forum, Ulrich presented research on “Sovereign Risk and Climate Change”, drawing on research conducted for the United Nations on Climate Change and the Cost of Capital in Developing Countries , as well as an ongoing research project funded by the International Network for Sustainable Financial Policy Insights, Research, and Exchange (INSPIRE).

The One Planet Sovereign Wealth Fund Group was established at the One Planet Summit hosted by French President Macron in December 2017 in Paris. The One Planet Group represents diverse funds from around the world. Given both their influence and long-term investment horizons, sovereign wealth funds are uniquely positioned to promote long-term value creation and sustainable market outcomes. Accordingly, the One Planet Sovereign Wealth Fund Group was established in order to accelerate efforts to integrate financial risks and opportunities related to climate change in the management of large, long-term asset pools.
