SOAS visits Cuba's University of the Arts

On Tuesday 11 February, SOAS signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Cuba's Instituto Superior de Artes (ISA).

The ISA is the only University of Arts in Cuba. Located in the Playa neighbourhood of Havana, ISA offers undergraduate and postgraduate level studies, with six faculties: Music; Visual Arts; Theatre; Dance; Media; Preservation and Conservation. SOAS hopes to set up a credited exchange programme, between SOAS Music, the School of Arts and ISA in the coming years.

Valerie Amos, Director of SOAS, Lucy Durán, Professor of Music & Director of Recruitment, Admissions and Marketing and Tess Hirst, Executive Officer to the Director, were hosted by Sonia Ortega, Director of International Relations at ISA and Maria Rosa, Dean of the ISA Music Department. The Vice Rector, Mariluz Leon and Rector, Alexis Seijo Garcia arrived later during the meeting.

SOAS Music has the most vibrant programme of Cuban Music studies and Performance at both UG and PG level in the UK.
