School of Arts PhD student awarded Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship

Congratulations to Chih-En Chen , a third-year Ph.D. candidate and Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of the History of Art and Archaeology in the School of Arts at SOAS, who has been awarded a Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation (CCKF) Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship (2020-2021) to support his fourth year at SOAS. He has also been selected by the committee of The Oriental Ceramic Society (OCS) to receive The OCS George de Menasce Memorial Trust Award (2020), which will give him an opportunity to read a previously unpublished paper on his research results to the Society in December 2021, of a level suitable for publication in the Society’s Transactions (TOCS).

Chih-En specializes in Chinese ceramics and trompe l’oeil works of art in the 18th-19th century China and Europe, and he is currently working on his thesis entitled "Feminine Space and Playthings: The Origin, Development and Classification of Trompe l’Oeil Porcelain in High Qing China".
