SOAS students supported by SOAS careers service for life

24 June 2020

SOAS students are supported by our fantastic careers service from the start of their enrollment until graduation and beyond. We offer tailored careers support for SOAS students via our Careers Registration questionnaire which all students complete at the start of every year. This ensures that when we work in partnership with academic departments we are able to tailor activities for students according to their sector interests and stage of career readiness.

Each year we also run two series of events designed to reach all students - the first is the Departmental Open House days, where the Careers team curates resources and ideas suitable for students of a particular department, and students can drop in for a chat or to collect ideas. The second is our Career Thinking coffee afternoons. We invite students according to their stage of career thinking to come and drop-in, have a cup of Careers coffee, attend tailored workshops, or have an informal chat with a Careers professional.

Some of our 2018 graduates have gone on to work for UNICEF, The New York Times, The World Bank, Deloitte and the Magic Circle law firms Linklaters and Slaughter and May.

Philippa Hewett, Head of SOAS Careers Service said:

"A SOAS degree is recognised and appreciated by employers worldwide. Our graduates go on to work in organisations such as UNICEF, The New York Times, The World Bank, Deloitte and the Magic Circle law firms Linklaters and Slaughter and May. The Careers team actively supports students while they are at SOAS, ensuring what we offer meets their career thinking and sector interests while they are studying with us. We also offer Careers support for life to SOAS graduates - once a SOASian, always a SOASian!"
