SOAS statement in reaction to police violence against the #EndSARS Protests in Nigeria

22 October 2020

The recent violence against protesters in Nigeria has sparked outrage and concern across the world. At SOAS, we condemn the violence against and killings of innocent civilians in Lagos, Abuja and across the country by government security forces and the continued harassment of peaceful protesters.

At SOAS we have a long and proud history of teaching and research which promotes human rights, equality, justice and a zero tolerance of all forms of discrimination and as the university has many links to Nigeria through our students, staff and research, we stand in solidarity with those protesting for a fairer justice system in the country.

For those members of the SOAS community who are feeling distressed please speak to your line manager or access our staff support services ; for students please do contact our wellbeing services on studentadviceandwellbeing@soas.ac.uk .
