SOAS-based film companies shortlisted for AHRC awards

28 October 2020

Animation production company PositiveNegatives and Chouette Films , who are both based at SOAS and have worked extensively with SOAS researchers, have been shortlisted for the AHRC Research in Film Awards 2020 .

The AHRC Research in Film Awards remains the only film awards dedicated to celebrating and recognising arts and humanities research through film.

PositiveNegatives' animation, A Stork's Journey, has been shortlisted in the Best Climate Emergency Film category. It invites the audience to fly alongside white storks in this film exploring stork behaviour and their migration patterns from Germany to Sudan.

Chouette Films produced Nobody's metaphor, which was shortlisted in the Inspiration Award category. The film follows a group of Muslim girls and young women of colour as they embrace fencing and poetry for the first time. These two physical and communicative activities help them gain confidence, explore their identities and challenge the stereotypes that young women face. The film was also produced with the help of two SOAS alumni now working for the organisation, Maslaha, which seeks to change and challenge the conditions that create inequalities for Muslim communities.

This year's winners will be announced in a special online-online awards ceremony on 11 November 2020.
