5 February 2021

Jan Toporowski, Professor of Economics and Finance, has been appointed to the Council of the Progressive Economy Forum, which advises the Labour Party on economic policy. He joins a distinguished Council that includes Ann Pettifor, Stephany Griffith-Jones, Kate Pickett, Susan Himmelweit, Suzanne Konzelmann, Ha-Joon Chang, Robert Skidelsky, Will Hutton and Guy Standing.

The Progressive Economy Forum was set up in 2018 by its Director, Patrick Allen and the late John Weeks, Emeritus Professor of Economics at SOAS, former Head of the Economics Department and former Director of the Centre for Development Policy and Research at SOAS. Before he died, in July 2020, John was editing, with Patrick Allen and Suzanne Konzelmann, a book exploring radical policy options for the Labour Party. Jan took over John’s editing work on the book which will be coming out as The Return of the State, Restructuring Britain for the Common Good (Agenda Publishing) in April 2021.
