The Centre of Taiwan Studies is pleased to announce the signing of a new agreement between SOAS and the Ministry of Culture (Taiwan) to launch the next edition of the ‘Taiwan Post New Wave Cinema’ Project under the Spotlight Taiwan Programme.

The Taiwan Post New Wave Cinema Project serves as a welcome addition in promoting awareness and understanding of Taiwan’s cinematic development on its own terms among UK audiences, and the Centre is now working to expand the project’s horizons by featuring a series on emerging directors alongside Taiwan Post New Wave generation figures.

Building upon the success of last year’s project, audiences will again be able to experience a season of director focused film series followed by live Q&A sessions. This year’s edition will also host a range of critical discussion sessions with leading film scholars around the works of featured filmmakers. The directors who are invited to take part this year include: Chen Yu-hsun, Yang Ya-che, Chen Singing, and a group of young female directors. One of the focuses of the 2021 series is emerging young directors, especially the feminist perspective.

The Centre of Taiwan Studies look forward to again welcoming new and returning audiences back online to experience this fantastic programme, continuing the Centre’s tireless work of promoting awareness and appreciation of Taiwan Studies over the past 20 years.
