Department of Anthropology and Sociology Launch Sustainability and Climate Change Blog

5 May 2021

The Department of Anthropology and Sociology are delighted to announce the launch of our new blog platform, "Anthropology, Climate Change and Sustainability at SOAS." As a department, we are home to a number of scholars and students who are working to respond to some of the most profound challenges facing societies around the world today. Anthropology and anthropologists have to take the lead in helping the world to answer the questions that climate change, mass extinctions, and unsustainable industries pose to our futures and our survival. This blog is a collection of work in progress that details some of our community’s engagement with these challenges.

The blog features creative and theoretical contributions from academics and students in the department, publishing their cutting edge work-in-progress alongside one another. Early contributions have included ethnographic articles, thought pieces on the anthropocene, haikus on the theme of sustainability, and the performance and analysis of a poem. We hope that the platform will provide the SOAS community, prospective students, and a wider audience with a taste of the exciting work being completed in the SOAS Department of Sociology and Anthropology’s research cluster in the anthropology of climate change and sustainability. The blog comes ahead of the launch of our pioneering new MA programme in the Anthropology of Global Futures and Sustainability in the coming academic year.

Please visit the blog site here , where you can read and engage with the submissions. We look forward to welcoming you to the new platform in the near future.
