SOAS collaborates with Gendered Intelligence to create a school wide trans, non-binary and intersex inclusion policy

SOAS University of London has started a year-long consultancy with Gendered Intelligence to create a trans, non-binary and intersex inclusion policy for its staff and students.

As a trans led charity working to increase understandings of gender diversity and improve the lives of trans people since 2008, Gendered Intelligence draws on extensive trans and non-binary knowledge and experience with developing similar policies to inform this process.  

This policy will be produced with the voluntary engagement of trans/nonbinary/intersex staff and students, the Students Union and the student group Trans* Dignity, working with key stakeholders across the University.

Gendered Intelligence will: 

  • Facilitate an engagement process with trans/non-binary/intersex students and staff, to gather input 
  • Draft the policy text using input received during the engagement process
  • Consult with key stakeholders to inform redrafting and finalisation of the proposed policy

Sophie Dodsworth, SOAS Coordinator of the policy said:

I hope the new trans inclusion policy and the actions that follow from it will make SOAS a safer and more welcoming place for people of all genders. I'd like to encourage all trans, non-binary, and intersex students and staff who feel able to come forward when we begin the initial consultation in the new academic year - our voices need to be at the center of this work."
