SOAS student awarded a Freshfields Stephen Lawrence scholarship

26 August 2021

Congratulations to LLB student, Andrew Bossman-Okai, who has been awarded a Freshfields Stephen Lawrence scholarship.

Launched in 2013, the Freshfields Stephen Lawrence Scholarship Scheme was designed to address the disproportionate under-representation of black and black mixed-race men from less privileged backgrounds in large commercial law firms. It’s a model for other leading businesses in the City of London. The scheme offers a small number of scholarships to talented students who will work closely with lawyers and other professionals with the aim of being offered opportunities that include training contracts with commercial law firms, including Freshfields, and in commercial law and other areas at other City organisations. After an intensive vetting process, the School of Law’s nominee, Andrew Bossman-Okai, was selected to receive one of these highly prestigious scholarships. Andrew will enter year 2 of the LLB degree programme in September.

Dr Jonathan Ercanbrack, Senior Lecturer in Transnational Financial Law said: “The School of Law, Gender and Media Studies is absolutely thrilled about Andrew's selection for this prestigious and important scholarship. We congratulate him wholeheartedly and wish him the best in his career development.”
