EDM for Raffles Revisited Book Launch (pdf; 395kb)

On Wednesday 9th March, Stephen A Murphy (Pratapaditya Pal Senior Lecturer in Curating and Museology of Asian Art) will launch a new edited volume entitled 'Raffles Revisited: Essays on Collecting and Colonialism in Java, Singapore and Sumatra'. The book launch will take place online, hosted by Singapore’s national museum of Asian antiquities and decorative art, the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM).

This collection of essays arose out of the Revisiting Raffles symposium and evening lectures at ACM held in conjunction with the 'Raffles in Southeast Asia: Revisiting the Scholar and Statesman' (2019) exhibition.

Essays by scholars, writers, and an artist – based in Singapore and internationally – explore issues surrounding collecting, colonialism, and writing about the culture and past of Southeast Asia. Overall, the volume offers new approaches and perspectives to Singapore and Southeast Asia’s colonial past.

The book launch will take place on Wednesday 9th March at 6pm (Singapore, UTC+8) on Zoom and ACM’s Facebook Live. To register for the event, click here .
