Dr Shirin Ebadi, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate 2003 and SOAS Honorary Graduate, will be speaking at SOAS, University of London this weekend on the feminist movement in Iran.
Organised by the Centre for Supporters of Human Rights, an organisation established by Dr Ebadi in London in 2012, and hosted by SOAS, ‘A Review of the Performance of the Feminist Movement in Iran after the Revolution of 1979’ will take place on Saturday 1 June at 2pm in the Brunei Gallery Lecture Theatre.
Dr Ebadi will discuss the women's movement in Iran and the peaceful way they have chosen to demand their equal rights. She will argue that although Iranian women have not obtained legal equality they have successfully challenged the patriarchal system.
Additional participants include SOAS scholar Dr Ziba Mir-Hosseini, human right's lawyer Mahnaz Parakand, poet and journalist Asieh Amini, Mansoureh Shojaei, women's rights, peace and environmental activist Khadijeh Moghadam and Masih Alinejad.
