Anna Contadini, Professor of the History of Islamic Art at SOAS, University of London has been awarded the ‘Premio Vallesina 2014’ for the category ‘Culture’ at a gala event in Morro D’Alba near Ancona, Italy. The ‘Premio Vallesina’ is held every two years and honours individuals who have distinguished themselves internationally in their respective field(s). The ceremony was presided over by Laura Boldrini, President of the Italian House of Commons (Chamber of Deputies).
The selection committee for the prize based their decision upon: “The human and cultural openness that has allowed Professor Anna Contadini to research the richness of the European and Arab artistic heritage in depth and disseminate it through her deep commitment to university teaching and through publications at an international level, obtaining prizes and awards”.
Professor Contadini said: “I am delighted to have been selected to receive such an important award from my own country. Apart from my family links, Italy for me is important for its art and culture, which inform much of my research”.
The ceremony took place on 28 June 2014. The President of the Italian Republic is the Prize’s Patron.
