SOAS alumnus Nick Mulvey up for a second Mercury Prize

30 October 2014

Former SOAS student Nick Mulvey, BA Music Studies, has been nominated for the 2014 Mercury Prize for his first solo album First Mind. This is the second time that Nick has been up for the prestigious award, having been nominated back in 2008 as part of a jazz outfit he founded called Portico Quartet for their album Knee-Deep in the North Sea. This year’s winner will be announced at this evening’s Awards Show which can be watched live on Channel 4 at 11:40pm.

Nick Mulvey graduated from SOAS in 2007 with a degree in Music Studies. He is currently receiving a lot of media attention due to his second nomination, and a running theme across his interviews has been his passion for, and interest in, ethnomusicology.

Other nominees this year include Damon Albarn, Anna Calvi and Bombay Bicycle Club.
