SOAS scholar publishes book on the social history of Hebrew

Lewis H Glinert, Professorial Research Associate at SOAS University of London, has published a book exploring the extraordinary hold that Hebrew has had on Jews and Christians, who have invested it with a symbolic power far beyond that of any other language in history.

Writer and pioneering human rights lawyer Raja Shehadeh to speak at SOAS

Writer and lawyer Raja Shehadeh will be speaking at SOAS University of London on 9 March as part of SOAS’s Centenary Lecture Series. The lecture ‘Reflections on the failures of international law and human rights, and on sources of hope’ will focus on Israel and Palestine.

SOAS to host UNESCO event to discuss revision of language index

UNESCO in cooperation with SOAS World Languages Institute, supported by the London Middle East Institute in UK, is organising a two-day consultative expert meeting on the revision of UNESCO’s Language Vitality Index which will be used for the development of UNESCO’s World Atlas of Languages.
