German Lessons for Sino-Japanese Relations?

Germany has frequently been hailed as a model for how Japan should approach its history.  Indeed, this has become a frequent talking point in official Chinese critiques of Japanese behaviour.  But what lessons does the German experience hold for how we should understand the role of history in Sino-Japanese relations?  Looking at the steps towards reconciliation between the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Israel from the early 1950’s onward, this talk will address the counterintuitive implications of that process not just for Japan, but also China.
