Launch of the Shapoorji Pallonji Zoroastrian Institute
In July last year, SOAS received a £5 million donation to found this world-leading institute, which will be a resource dedicated to enhancing the research, learning and teaching in the field of one of the world’s oldest religions. Speaking at the opening, major supporter Mr Mistry, Chairman of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, said that the launch of the institute filled him with great pride, describing it as a “great journey that we are about to begin.”

Donation to support research on the old 'Summer Palace' in Beijing
Louise Tythacott, Pratapaditya Pal Senior Lecturer in Curating and Museology of Asian Art, has been awarded a major philanthropic donation to undertake research on the histories and displays of objects from the Yuanmingyuan, or old ‘Summer Palace’, in Beijing.

Gates Foundation makes $1million award to SOAS
Professor Bhavani Shankar of the SOAS South Asia Insitute has been awarded $1million to carry out a project investigating the impact of market interventions on nutritional improvement in India, Bangladesh and Ethiopia.

We were honoured to host the annual Felix Scholar’s reception last week welcoming more than 50 guests made up of Felix Scholars from SOAS, University of Reading and University of Oxford. The scholarships are supported by the Felix Scholarship Trust, for postgraduate students.

Launch of Questions worth asking in Lagos
We were delighted to celebrate the launch of the Questions worth asking Campaign in Lagos, Nigeria with a large crowd of alumni, VIP guests and friends. A panel chaired by Dr Emilia Onyema, Senior Lecturer in International Commercial Law at SOAS discussed 'The Girl-Child education in Nigeria: problems and prospects' with Dr Simeon Obidairo, Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode and Aisha Ahmad, and we were honoured to be joined by Professor Wole Soyinka, Nobel Laureate and SOAS Honorary Fellow.

Donation from AXA Research Fund to create a new Professorial post
Professor Victor Murinde has been appointed AXA Professor in Global Finance in the School of Finance and Management at SOAS University of London. This is a new permanent academic position, created by SOAS and endowed by the AXA Research Fund.

Donation towards digitisation of endangered language
We are delighted to have received £2,500 from The Patron’s Fund to support the digitisation of over three hundred interviews carried out by Dr Sarah Stewart, mainly in the Dari language, recorded as part of a research project on contemporary Zoroastrian communities in Iran.
