What is the place of religion in the modern world?


A new five-year lecture series in Chinese Buddhism has been launched thanks to a donation from The Robert H N Ho Family Foundation. The lectures will allow a wide audience to approach Chinese Buddhism in its full richness and complexity, and encourage them to contribute their answers to what the place of this ancient religion is in our modern world.

SOAS celebrates scholarships and philanthropy

On the evening of 1 November, around 150 guests - scholars, donors, academics and other friends of the School - gathered to celebrate the impact of scholarships on SOAS and to meet with other scholars and donors. There were speeches from Director of SOAS Baroness Valerie Amos CH along with scholarship recipients Onen David Ongwech from Uganda and Donya Nasser from the US.

New York Launch of SOAS Questions worth asking

We were delighted to launch the Campaign for SOAS in New York last night with Baroness Amos hosting the American Friends of SOAS (AFSOAS), and other alumni, friends and donors. Guests watched our thought provoking campaign film, and heard from David Miliband - President and CEO of the International Rescue Committee and former UK Foreign Secretary, and Laura Hammond - Reader in Development Studies at SOAS, speaking about the international refugee crisis.

Hong Kong Launch of SOAS Questions worth asking

We were delighted to welcome alumni, friends and other distinguished guests to celebrate the launch of Questions worth asking in Hong Kong. Baroness Amos spoke about the importance of philanthropy to SOAS's vision, and guests were introduced to Professor Steven Tsang, the new Director of the SOAS China Institute.

Launch of SOAS Questions worth asking The Campaign for SOAS University of London

Today Baroness Amos and over 200 guests including SOAS alumni, friends, donors and staff will attend the launch of the launch of SOAS Questions worth asking.

Beginning in our Centenary year, the Campaign is asking alumni and friends to support the intellectual talent and infrastructure needed to keep on asking the questions that matter.

Opening of the Paul Webley Wing of Senate House

Baroness Amos hosted an event to celebrate the opening of the Paul Webley Wing of Senate House North Block, named in honour of SOAS's eighth Director, Professor Paul Webley who passed away in March 2016.

Attended by over 400 guests, the event celebrated the generous philanthropic contributions of donors along with marking the opening of this space which will enhance the student and staff experience at SOAS.
