Research Data Management
SOAS is committed to promoting good practice in research data management and where appropriate, and in line with external funder requirements, supporting researchers in providing access to their research data-sets.
In May 2016 the Research and Enterprise Committee approved a Research Data Management Policy for SOAS and subsequently endorsed updates in May 2017. The Policy reflects the principles set out in the HEFCE Concordat on Open Data and RCUK Common Principles on Data Policy. The policy lays out the School’s expectations on the management and sharing of research data as well as the support that SOAS is developing in this area.
Anyone at SOAS who undertakes or supports research activity at the School should make sure they are familiar with our SOAS Research Data Management Policy (pdf; 109kb) . Researchers who are applying for or are in receipt of external funding must also comply with their funder requirements for data management and data sharing.
Familiarising yourself with general information, practicalities and growing importance of research data management planning and sharing is a good thing for every researcher to do. It will prepare you to meet funder and institutional requirements for data management, as well as ensure you handle your research data in line with data protection legislation.
These pages include information, guides and details of training and support that is available for research data management. There are also some external resources which can be used by researchers or staff who support research which are a great introduction to the issues and practices related to research data management and sharing.
