Pardeh Khani (reading off the curtain) amalgamates acting, narrating, and personal storytelling with innovative stage preparation, presenting a new style of interaction with the audience. In Off the Curtain Mashayekh provides the audience with an alternative form of presenting an epic story. It steps outside the boundaries of the established method of theatre performance, which most commonly presents a readymade story to a passive audience. Instead, the performance engages the audience emotionally and tries to encourage them to use their imagination. This is achieved through a method of performance in which the story is narrated by one main performer - who also acts some of the scenes and embodies the characters, but does this minimally so not to interrupt the audiences’ own imagination of the story. The performance, consequently, seeks to put the focus on the style of the performance itself, where the point of the piece is not the final peak of narration and the conclusion to the story, but rather the process of presenting the story through an effort to make the audience active participants in the course of the performance itself.
