Annual Study Tour
Annual Study Tour to European Museum Collections and Research Archives of Southeast Asian Art
Students enrolled in Southeast Asia’s Art Histories I (15PARH087) in Term 1, are eligible to apply for Southeast Asia’s Art Histories II (15PARH100) in Term 2. The Term 2 module includes a fully funded Study Tour to French and Dutch Museum Collections and Research Archives of Ancient Hindu-Buddhist Southeast Asian Art. The Study Tour is an intensive week-long experience led by SOAS specialists, including in-depth presentations by specialist academics, curators and archivists in France and the Netherlands. Highlights include the Musée Guimet, the École française d’Extrême-Orient and the Manuscripts Division of the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris, and the Rijksmuseum, Tropen Museum and Museum Volkenkunde in the Netherlands.

We are determined to turn to our advantage whatever comes our way in 2021! If travel is not advisable during this period, the Study Tour will be conducted as an immersive group online experience. We are developing innovative ways to benefit from and reflect on the new perspectives and modes of access afforded by technology. You can read about the 2017 Study Tour here.

The Study Tour is supported by SOAS’s Southeast Asian Art Academic Programme (SAAAP), with generous funding from the Alphawood Foundation.
