Ralph Pinder-Wilson Travel Award
Ralph Pinder-Wilson Awards are made to help to promote and develop knowledge and understanding of Islamic Art by funding a limited number of research projects in certain countries. They are normally made available for research visits during the summer vacation. Each project application is assessed on its intrinsic and objective merits, and prospective candidates must show that they have the time and ability to complete the proposed project satisfactorily.
Carefully considered projects which look at a small defined area of study will be more likely to succeed than projects that lack depth and insight and which propose to look at a general overview of a subject. It is unlikely therefore that projects for visits to more than one country will be entertained. The academic performance and profile of the student will be taken into consideration in so far as it is an indicator of the capability of the student of completing the project satisfactorily. Ralph Pinder-Wilson Awards are available only to MA Islamic Art Students as a contribution towards fieldwork expenses for research on their dissertation, and calls are circulated internally with further guidelines on how to apply.
