In this seminar, former Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF, Kul Gautam, will discuss his recently published book, Lost in Transition: Rebuilding Nepal from the Maoist Mayhem and Mega Earthquake (nepa~laya, 2015). Commentary will be provided by Professor David Gellner, Professor of Social Anthropology and Fellow of All Souls College, University of Oxford.

This seminar will be chaired by Professor Michael Hutt, Director of the SOAS South Asia Institute.

Biography

Kul Gautam was born in Gulmi district, Nepal, and rose to be Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF. In 2011-12 he served as Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Nepal on International Affairs and the Peace Process. He serves on the board of several international organizations and charities, including Oxfam. Many of his writings can be found at www.kulgautam.org.
