Abstract

Referred to as the land of “One Thousands Cities” by the Greeks; “Mother of Cities” by the Arab/Turkic/Persian writers, the birthplace of “Nowrouz” and “Zoroaster” ; a distinctive "Khorassani city" and the birthplace of Rumi, Balkh in today’s Afghanistan represents a truly cosmopolitan and multicultural city. On the occasion of International Day of Nowrouz and the Iranian/Persian/Afghan/Kurdish New Year ( 21 March), We celebrate the Night of Balkh at SOAS on Sunday 22 March (18:00-22:00). The program includes academic presentations, cultural program, music and of course Afghan/Balkhi cuisines.
