The SOAS South Asia Institute (SSAI) will be officially launching on the 18th of May 2015. The theme of the launch will be South Asia Across Borders. SOAS will welcome influential guests from South Asia and the South Asia community in the UK to celebrate the region’s heritage and its important role on the world stage. The public event will feature a panel of high-profile personalities giving their perspectives on the launch theme, as well as music, entertainment and food from the region.

Speakers

The panel will follow a Question Time format, and audience members are asked to come with thought-provoking questions for our panellists, who will be as follows:

  • Moderator: Mishal Husain - Broadcaster
  • Shiv Shankar Mukherjee - SOAS Honorary Fellow, former Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and former Indian Ambassador to Nepal
  • Namita Gokhale - Writer, publisher and festival director
  • Maleeha Lodhi - Pakistan’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York
  • Kanak Mani Dixit  – Author, journalist and Founding Editor of Himal Southasian magazine, based in Kathmandu
