Biography

J. Daniel Luther is the co-founder of the international platform and network called ‘Queer’ Asia which hosts an annual Film Festival, Art Exhibition, and Conference/ Summer Programme on issues pertaining to queer sexualities and genders in Asia, Asian diasporas, and beyond. They completed their Ph.D. from SOAS University of London and their research interests include South Asian public culture, especially cinema, new media, focusing on queer and LGBT+ sexuality and genders. They are currently curating the 3rd instalment of the ‘Queer’ Asia Film Festival and Art Exhibition in the British Museum to be held on 13th and 14th of July 2019. They have co-edited ‘Queer’ Asia: Decolonising and Reimagining Gender and Sexuality, and published an article titled ‘Queer’ Theory in The Year’s Work in Critical and Cultural Theory and a chapter titled ‘Dissidence in Singapore’ in the Global Encyclopaedia of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer History.
