- Everyday Reading: Popular magazines and Book publishing in Post Independence India
Through my work, I propose to examine middle-class reading practices in the 1950s, the decade immediately following India’s independence, through the archive of the Hindi print magazine. While a rich journal culture had emerged since the nineteenth century, what distinguishes the post-1947 popular magazine is the emergence of the vernacular middle class as the burgeoning consumer, which shall be the focal point of my research.
