Biography
My doctoral research (SOAS 2018) explored themes of urbanity, insecurity and piety in the Kenyan port of Mombasa, particularly amongst Muslims of Gujarati origin who count generations of residence in the city. I currently hold a Visiting Fellowship at Leiden University, co-hosted by the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) and the African Studies Centre (ASC).
Research interests
Urban anthropology; anthropology of insecurity; architecture; Islamic reform; blood donation; food; memory, especially nostalgia; Indian Ocean; South Asian diasporas; climate change.
