- Year of Study:
Yinka is an MPhil/PhD candidate in the Department of Economics. Her first degree was in Electrical/Electronics Engineering at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. In the first phase of her career, she worked as a management consultant and business analyst with firms such as KPMG and MTN South Africa. On completion of her MSc in Development Economics at SOAS, she consulted for DFID as a Technical Assistant at the Budget Office, Federal Ministry of Finance in Nigeria and at the World Bank Country Office in Abuja, Nigeria.
In my research I will be investigating the ICT and telecommunications sectors in Lagos, Nigeria and the capability for these sectors to deliver transformative growth similar to that typically generated by the manufacturing sector. The intent is to revisit the paradigm that only the manufacturing sector has the capabilities to provide the level and type of increasing returns, economies of scale, linkages and spillovers to the rest of the economy capable of driving dynamic growth.
