Biography

Laurie holds a PhD in International Relations from the Department of War Studies, King’s College London. Her doctoral thesis, entitled ‘Re-imagining French-Algerian Relations: Art Practices, Institutions, and the International’, examined the artistic practices of French-Algerian artists at the intersection of the transnational art world and local French institutional contexts as a political sociology of the postcolonial. It traced historical and contemporary contested framings of ‘French’ art, examining together power relations, aesthetics, and mediating practices of visibility in art sites.

Her research interests include the global/local politics of art, notably with reference to the politics of difference, the relationship of French colonial and postcolonial histories to postcolonial theory, and critical methods of IR research.

Laurie is also a Research Fellow with Arts Cabinet- Art and Enquiry, a charitable organisation which examines modes of practice and documentation in cultural production.
