Intra-household Gender Relations and Modern Marriage Ideal in urban China

Biography

Nina Sun is currently a PhD candidate in Centre for Gender Studies at SOAS University of London. Her work focuses on gender and power relations in post-reform Chinese marriage. In particular, she is interested in the gendered roles in the dilemma of navigating between modern marriage ideals and traditional familial ethics, and the ways male homosexuality as a self-identity makes the dilemma conspicuous. Nina is also a published writer and a columnist in one of the most influential social media platforms in China. Her essays aim to address the prominent issues of gender inequality within the marriage institution in the Chinese society.
