Mukta Das completed a PhD in the Anthropology of Food at SOAS in 2018. Her research focused on South Asian food communities and networks in China's Pearl River Delta, particularly in Macau, Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Her research explored notions of food, belonging and identity and charted the transformations of these in the decades after the end of British and Portuguese colonialism in the region among South Asian food purveyors and how they have adapted to new kinds of racial diversity in this region. She has written a chapter in a forthcoming book published by Routledge, and articles on professional food blogs and in journals such as Gastronomica - The Journal of Critical Food Studies. Mukta is now a Research Associate at the SOAS Food Studies Centre and she continues to research, write and speak on food and identity issues, and hosts the fortnightly audio newsletter, XO Soused, with Chef Andrew Wong.
