Biography

Sol works as a doctoral research fellow at CeDEP, focussing on livestock value chains and animal source foods in South Africa.

She obtained an MSc in health economics from Barcelona GSE. She did her PhD at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), the nutrition, economic and sustainability impacts of trade liberalization of palm oil in India.

In the past, she has worked as a research fellow at LSHTM on the Palm Oil Sustainability, Health and Economics (POSHE) project, funded by Wellcome Trust. Other projects have focussed on the economic evaluation of One Health Initiatives as part of an EU funded project led by the NEOH network, in collaboration with colleagues at the Royal Veterinary College and University of Bologna. More recently, she has been involved in projects involving collaboration with non-academic partners, including a study on market interventions to reduce childhood obesity in lower income families in the UK.

Her current interests include mixed methods tools for the analysis of food trade and sustainable nutrition, complex systems analysis, value chain analysis for sustainable nutrition and the links between obesity and food poverty.
