Frances joined SOAS in 2019 as a researcher on the Global Challenges Research Fund project Drugs and (Dis)order. She completed her PhD, with funding from the Economic and Social Research Council, at the University of Sussex in 2019. Frances’ doctoral thesis explores the political economy of land and dispossession in Colombia. She has also written on the agrarian question and violence in Colombia, land-grab induced displacement and financialisation. More broadly, her areas of interest include political ecology, land policies/law and issues, development theory, agrarian studies and critical political economy. In earlier years, Frances taught at the Autonomous University of Manizales and the University of Caldas – in Colombia. (For more information see her Google Scholar profile and ORCID webpage.)
